GADGET CORNER
This month we are going to look at the compass. This inexpensive gadget can be added to your ghost hunting kit for less than $5.

The compass point is affected by magnetic fields. The theory is that paranormal activity changes the magnetic field. This can cause the needle to spin or point in the wrong direction. First you will need to know what direction North is. During the investigation pay close attention to which way the needle is pointing towards. A normal reading is always North. Possible paranormal activity is when the compass is reading the wrong direction or if it begins to spin or have erratic movement.

Give it a try and see if you like using a compass. If you get erratic movement try doing some audio recording. This could lend a hand in capturing a voice on audio.

Next month we'll review the KII meter.

LOCAL HAUNTS
Kings Island Amusement Park in Mason, OH can more than just thrill us with their rides or even scare us with their Halloween Haunt (begins September 26)

There are quite a few ghosts that haunt this theme park. First on our ghost list is a little girl who is describe with blonde hair, blue eyes and wears a pretty blue dress. She is often seen near Water Works and she has been known to scare tram drivers by playing hide-and-seek with them when the park closes. She is thought to be buried in the cemetery that is located between the parking lot of Kings Island and the Great Wolf Lodge.

Next we have a ghost of a young man who haunts the oservation deck of the Eiffel Tower. He fell to his death after trying to climb the tower in 1983.

A woman haunts the "Coney Island" area of the park. Guest have reported seeing a woman disoriented trying to find her way. There was a death of a woman who fell out of a ride located near the "Octopus". Maybe she is trying to "find her way".

Want to have dinner with a ghost? It is said that the private restaurant is haunted by a chef that died on the premises.

Many other ghosts are said to roam the park as well. I guess there can be more than a "thrill ride" at Kings Island.

ASK A GHOST HUNTER
Why is it that the majority of sightings, sounds, and phenomenon happen after sunset?
I don't think its necessarily true that more "sightings" or "experiences" happen at night, I think they could easily happen during the day as well, many EVPs have been recorded during the day.

At night is when more investigations are conducted. There is a lot of noise and distractions during the day, making an investigation more difficult, if more investigations are held at night that will skew the stats on peak times for "paranormal" activity.

Also, just a psychological thing, people tend to get jumpy at night because its darker, more quiet and they are usually more relaxed. It's a time most people tend to wind down and they aren't so distracted so their sensitivity to noise will increase, and they may be bothered by things they are not so familiar with, the same things happen when you are alone. People will easily attribute a typical occurrence that they wouldn't think twice about during the day to something paranormal if it occurs at night.
