Case # BEE1011
|
Site History
This property is located in a suburb of Cincinnati, OH called West Price Hill. This area was originally praised as Cincinnati 's most popular and distinctive suburbs. First named Bold Face Hill after Chief Bold Face, the area was later renamed after General Reese E. Price. In 1877 a new mode of transportation known as the Incline brought thousands of newcomers to the area. That's when the first housing boom started in this area. This home was part of that first housing boom. This home was built in 1890 being part of the Mt. St. Vincent subdivision, this subdivision was originally part of the Mt. St. Vincent Academy, Cedar Grove which was owned by the Sisters of Charity. The Sisters of Charity originally purchased the land from Judge Alderson and subsequently added 20 more acres. This parcel is part of those additional 20 acres. The original academy is now Seton High School.Reported Paranormal Phenomena
Footsteps in the attic, door to the attic opening and closing on its own, some murmuring voices, pictures and figurines moving on their own.
Investigators Present
Michele Hale
Joy Naylor
Noah Carlisle
Sarah Davenport-McEvoy
Marie Peterson
Matt Hoskins
Investigators are divided into two teams of three, rotating teams in approximately half hour shifts through out the home, with one team monitoring base.
Team 1: Joy, Matt, Sarah
Team 2: Michele, Noah MarieInvestigation Conditions
Average Temperature Inside: 80° F
Average Humidity Inside: 58%
Weather Outside: At 8:00 pm EST, clear with a temperature of 78.9° F, humidity is at
90%, winds are at 3 mph.
*Solar X-Ray: Normal
*Geomagnetic Field: Quiet
**Moon Phase: Waning gibbous
*Solar X-Ray and Geomagnetic Field activities seem to affect the amount of paranormal activity. Researchers have found that during periods of heightened solar x-ray activity and geomagnetic activity in space, paranormal activity increases.
**Research has shown that the magnetic fields are the strongest on the days around the full and new moon cycles. Spirit activity is found to be more prominent during these times.
Investigation DurationJune 20, 2008: Start 8:00 pm EST - End 11:00 pm ESTEquipment Used
Multiple digital audio recorders and cameras. Astek IR cameras, K II EMF meter, Lutron EMF-822A, IR audible motion sensor, multiple thermometers from ambient to noncontact, and weather monitor stations located throughout the home.
Investigation Report
The investigation began with the IR cameras being placed in various areas in the home. The first camera was placed in the attic and was focused on the front of the home; the second camera was placed in the master bedroom and was focused on the dresser and the door leading to the hallway; the third camera was placed in the hallway on the second floor and was focused on the hallway, attic door and entrance to the master bedroom; the fourth and final camera was placed in the living room and was focused on the shelf on the wall. Digital audio recorders were placed near the cameras and remote temperature monitors were placed in the living room, attic and master bedroom. A motion alarm was placed at the bottom of the attic stairs.
Teams and areas are assigned.
Baseline readings for the various rooms were as follows:
Room | EMF – in mG | Ambient Temp |
| Living Room | .1 - .2 | 81 |
| Master Bedroom | .1 - .2 | 88 |
| Attic | .1 - .2 | 92 |
| Base | .1 - .2 | 84 |
Event Review
Room | Time | Event |
| Master BR | Marie sees a bright light on the front of the dresser. Further review determines that the light a reflection of the headlamp worn by Matt. | |
| Master BR | Maries sees an orb sweep in front of the dresser. Further review determines that the light is a piece of dust illuminated by the IR camera. | |
| Basement | Did an experiment to try to determine possible cause for pictures to fall from shelf in the living room. There is a cold water pipe from the main that is loose (this is by the furnace) and needs a clamp – the pipe could vibrate. This pipe runs directly underneath the wall in the living room where the shelf is located. There is also an outside spicket at the same location. However, test on the water line pressure did not make the line vibrate enough to cause vibration in the wall. | |
| Attic | ||
| Living Room | Smell of mustard by the Grandfather clock in the hallway – cause undetermined as other team did not detect the smell and the smell was not there later. | |
| Attic | Radio interference – cause undetermined. | |
| Base | EVP captured on audio recorder at base. | |
| Master BR | EMF moves from .7 to 1.7 and 2.1 on south wall by the bed. A cold spot is also felt but cannot get a temp reading on it. | |
| Master BR | Picture captured from bedroom towards hall shows an orb. Further review of picture determines that it is a dust orb from prior activity in the hallway. | |
| Master BR | Temp in hall fluctuates from 76 to 86 degrees. However, cause of the fluctuation cannot be found (believe it might be equipment malfunction). EMF in hallway stays steady. Multiple photos are taken showing orbs. Upon further review these orbs are of dust particles from the attic steps. | |
| Master BR | High EMF readings (7) detected between the south wall and the bed. Additional high readings detected by the television set (15) on the east wall and by the clock radio (58) next to the bed. Unable to determine exact cause for high EMF reading along the south wall. However, the investigators suspect that it is a combination of the front porch light and the gas pipe that is located on the wall. |
Investigation Conclusion
No footsteps were heard in the attic or on the attic stairs during the nvestigation. However, a possible explanation for the noises is the high EMF readings that were recorded in the master bedroom. The high fields create a cage around the bed. If the occupants of the home are sensitive to EMF readings this could cause them to hear noises, experience feelings of paranoia and fear, and even feel sick. However, it is difficult to determine if an individual is sensitive to EMF. Moving the clock radio across the room may bring some relief from the incidents in the home.
While no conclusive evidence was captured to suggest a haunting, the EVP recorded at base suggests the possibility of an intelligent haunting. As the homeowner, you should feel free to set up ground rules for the spirits in your home such as not walking at night, only showing themselves to you when it would not be too much of a surprise etc. You can even ask them to leave you alone completely. Since they once were human, there is no guarantee that this will work. However, politely asking the spirits to stop making noise typically does.
