Site History

This brick building was built in 1900. Since at least the early 1950’s this site has operated as a restaurant on the first floor along with retail and upper floors serving as apartments. It is originally believed that this building served as a tavern and hotel when originally constructed.

Folklore

The former owner back in prohibition time shot and killed his policeman business partner (in crime) in the basement. The victim’s spirit reportedly still lingers in the basement. Later, the same owner was shot to death in the back alley behind the then tavern. There is also reportedly a tunnel system that was used in the prohibition era.

Investigators are divided into teams of 5. Rotating teams in half-hour shifts through out the basement of property.

Average Temperature Inside: 75.5° F

Average Humidity Inside: 32%

Weather Outside: At 7:30pm EST, dry with a temperature of 28 F, humidity is at 22%, winds are calm, sky is clear.

*Geomagnetic Field: Quiet

*Solar X-Ray and Geomagnetic Field activities seem to affect the amount of paranormal activity. Researchers have found that during periods of heightened solar x-ray activity and geomagnetic activity in space, paranormal activity increases.

*Moon Phase: Full 97%

*Research has shown that the magnetic fields are the strongest on the days around the full and new moon cycles. Spirit activity is found to be more prominent during these times.

Equipment Used

Multiple digital audio recorders and cameras. Two stationary cameras JVC – VHS C, Aiptek DVR, K II EMF meter, Lutron EMF-822A, T-1392 Digital EMF meter w/data logging, thermocouple – Kestrel 4000 Hand Held Weather Station, multiple thermometers from ambient to non-contact, weather monitor station at central logging station. Multiple analog recorders.

Investigation Report

The investigation began with the stationary cameras being place in the East corner of Room 2 and in the West corner of Room 5.

Teams and areas are assigned.

Baseline readings for the various rooms were as follows:

Multiple EMF and temperatures readings were taken through out the night. High EMF spikes are noted in Room 6 (over 22 mG), these are along a pipe at the ceiling. Also in Room 8 (over 150 mG) this is due to the electric meters in the hallway that is running along the south wall of this room. Throughout the investigation there are multiple EMF spikes, they dissipate and are at this time inconclusive. There are cold spots felt but further review of said spots are due to drafts from outside walls.

No visual phenomenon was observed on any video cameras. All teams of investigators had audio recorders and digital cameras. There were no anomalies in any digital cameras.

Investigation Conclusion

Although there was recorded audio phenomenon, we cannot reach a final conclusion about the reported paranormal activity. It is in our opinion due to the high EMF fields that seem to be present that this could lead some people who are sensitive to these fields to experience what they would perceive as "paranormal activity". The activity that was reported in the café area was not investigated (due to access) and can not be determined at this time. As to the folklore, historic research obtained could not verify the stories of the murders taking place.
